President

Edward G. Moore  "Ned"

 

Ned Moore has served as President of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges since July 1, 2002. He is a 1972 cum laude graduate of Washington and Lee University in journalism and holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from the University of North Texas.   

 

Prior to coming to the VFIC, Ned served for twelve years as Vice President for Development at  Randolph-Macon College.  While at R-MC, he developed and managed ongoing programs in fund-raising, alumni affairs, and marketing; and coordinated the college’s capital campaign that ended successfully in 1999 with over $51 million raised – well beyond the campaign's goal of $41.5 million. He also served as Vice President for Development at Austin College in Texas (1983-1990), Director of Alumni Programs at Rhodes College, Memphis TN (1978-83) and Public Information Officer at Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, VA (1973-78).

 

Active in his profession, Ned is on the board of directors for the Foundation for Independent Higher Education (FIHE), and is a former Board member of District III of the southeastern district of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He is the former President of the Virginia Association of Fund Raising Executives (VAFRE). In April 2000, VAFRE selected Mr. Moore to receive its Nina Abady Award in recognition of outstanding career achievement.  

 

A native of Miami, Florida, Ned is married to Tina Egge, who served as President of Leadership Metro Richmond.  Ms. Egge received her B.A. from Bridgewater College and M.A. from Hollins University.  They have two children.

Vice President 

Mary-Beth M. Johnson  "Mary-Beth"

 

Business and fund raising veteran Mary-Beth Johnson serves as Vice President of the VFIC.  

 

"We’re delighted to have Mary-Beth on our staff," said Ned Moore, President of the VFIC. "Her experience in both the business world and in fund raising is a major asset to our program. She also has a solid understanding of the private colleges and universities in our consortium, as she’s a graduate of one of our VFIC institutions, Lynchburg College."  

 

Mrs. Johnson’s background includes service as Director of Development at both Home Again/ESI Connections and St. Joseph’s Villa in Richmond, positions which focused on annual funds, corporate and foundation relations, and special events. Prior to that, she worked in distribution and account management for Production Masters, Inc., as well as for TPC Communications, both in Pennsylvania.  

 

As VFIC Vice President, Mrs. Johnson plans and directs the foundation’s annual campaign and has coordinated special programs such as the Ethics Bowl and the Career and Workforce Development.   

 

Mrs. Johnson served as the 2006-07 President of the Virginia Association of Fund Raising Executives (VAFRE) and is a member of Leadership Metro Richmond class of 2006.

Director, The Center for Career and Workforce Development

Douglas L. Banks "Doug"

 

Douglas L. Banks joined the VFIC in July 2007 as the Director of The Center for Career and Workforce Development. In keeping with the Center's mission -- to connect the HR departments of Virginia's leading corporations with our colleges' students as prospective interns and employees -- Doug will be working closely with the Career Services Offices on each of the 15 VFIC campuses, and with the college recruiters in the Human Resource Departments at Virginia businesses.

 

Prior to joining the VFIC, Mr. Banks was with the Office of Career Development at Christopher Newport University and served as its Internship Coordinator working as the Assistant Director of Experiential Learning, serving as a liaison between the university and statewide businesses. He was the coordinator of CNU Rescue, the volunteer program for CNU and member of Adult Committee for Young Life in Hampton Roads. Prior to this position Mr. Banks served as Assistant to the President, working directly with Dr. Paul Trible. Prior to his tenure at Christopher Newport, Mr. Banks was on the corporate staff of Ferguson Enterprises, a national corporation headquartered in Newport News, VA. While with Ferguson, Doug worked at their Santa Monica, CA, operations center and also spent time in the offices of their parent company, Wolseley, in the United Kingdom.

 

Mr. Banks is a graduate of one of the VFIC institutions, Hampden-Sydney College, with a major in History.

Director of Programs & Communication 

M. Jennings Booker  "Jenni"

 

Jenni Booker joined the staff of the VFIC in January 2006 as Director of Programs & Communications.  She takes lead responsibility for all of the foundation’s programs, projects and special events such as the Ethics Bowl and Annual Board Meeting.   She also takes lead responsibility for the foundation’s communications, publications and public relations. 

 

Ms. Booker came to the VFIC from The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, where she served as the Director of Development and was responsible for all elements of the Center's fundraising campaigns, corporate sponsorship and special event programs.  Previously, she held leadership positions as the Director of the Annual Fund and Director of Alumnae at St. Margaret’s School.  Prior to that, she held positions in human resources, public relations and corporate communications at Capital One Financial and Owens & Minor, Inc.

 

Ms. Booker is a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College with a major in Communications.  Her board service includes the Virginia Association of Fundraising Executives (VAFRE), President-Elect of the St. Margaret's School Alumnae Board, Center for Human-Animal Interaction at Virginia Commonwealth University - Medical Campus and Past President of the Richmond Animal League Board of Directors.  She has presented at VAFRE workshops and has participated in conferences and workshops with Council for the Advancement of Secondary Education (CASE), National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) and the Alumni Program Council (APC).
