OMNIPLEX World Services Scholarship plaque awarded to Patterson

For the 2012-13 academic year one student with demonstrated financial need and academic promise who has graduated within the past two years from one of Virginia's Community Colleges OR is transferring directly from one of Virginia's Community Colleges will receive this award.

General Information

Since 1952, the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC) has been raising money to strengthen the 15 leading private colleges in the Commonwealth and to ensure that access to private higher education in Virginia is an affordable option for students from all backgrounds and levels of financial need.

One of the VFIC Member Institutions highest priority objectives is securing scholarships for deserving students. Along with our corporate, foundation and individual partners, the VFIC provided more than 7,000 scholarships over the past 12 years.

Scholarships provided through the VFIC:

Brighter Futures Named Scholarships (donation of $15,000 and above) - one or more scholarships designated on each of our 15 campus. One student on each of our 15 campus receives at least $1,000.  

Affiliate Named Scholarships (donation of $5,000-$14,999) - at least one scholarship designated on each of 5 campuses. One student on each of the 5 campuses receives at least $1,000. 

Regional Scholarships directly benefit deserving students from defined regions of the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Scholarships may be designated for students from the following regions:

  • Hampton Roads
  • Greater Lynchburg
  • Greater Richmond
  • Northern Virginia
  • Roanoke/Southwest Virginia

Statewide - the "Virginia Scholars Fund" provides scholarships to students from all regions of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Undergraduate Research Scholarships is an initiative to expand the number of students engaged in undergraduate research in the sciences on the campuses. Scholarships help provide funding for: student summer stipend room and board on campus honorarium for the faculty mentor laboratory expenses and supplies other expenses (books, travel, software).

General Dynamics IT Scholarship

VFIC Trustee Tom Kirchmaier (right), Senior Vice President and General Manager of General Dynamics Information Technology was presented with token of appreciation during the 2012 VFIC Annual Meeting by Robert Woltz. General Dynamics Information Technology provides one new scholarship at each VFIC member institution for students with demonstrated financial need and academic promise majoring in Computer Science or in Business with an interest in pursuing an IT career.

Columbia Gas of Virginia creates new scholarship program

Carl Levander, VFIC Trustee and President of Columbia Gas of Virginia receives a token of appreciation from trustee Robert Woltz. Columbia Gas of Virginia continues its Brighter Futures scholarships which are directed to students residing in the company's service area who show demonstrated need and academic promise.
