VFIC SCHOLARSHIPS

|
The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges' named scholarship program allows a corporation, foundation or individual to have one or more students at each of the VFIC's 15 member institutions selected as recipients of their scholarship. In addition to making an independent higher education possible for students who otherwise would not be able to attend, the program allows organizations to develop meaningful long-term relationships with students and "see" the positive effects of their philanthropic dollars. To establish a new named scholarship or to ask a question about current scholarships, email Mary-Beth Johnson, VFIC Vice President.
For the 2009-10 year, the VFIC awarded approx. $1.1 million in designated scholarship funds to our member colleges. These funds provided 604 students with opportunities to further their education at our member colleges and universities. Our hope is that, in the future, even greater numbers of students will benefit through partnerships with these and other supporters of Virginia's independent higher education. Scholarship programs are administered by the financial aid offices at the VFIC colleges and universities. See Financial Aid Offices for more information.

Major: Business Administration and Philosophy
“It is a great honor to have been chosen as a VFIC / Norfolk Southern Scholar out of the many peers in the (VFIC) member colleges. This scholarship will afford me the opportunity to pursue an internship outside of my hometown this summer because the money I am saving on tuition will cover my living expenses in a different city. This scholarship will also allow me to interact with individuals involved with the VFIC, expanding my knowledge base and potential opportunities for future learning and employment.”

Year: Junior
Major: Business Administration
“Attending college can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a person’s life; but, for some of us, it can also be one of the most expensive. Students are burdened with not only the rigors of their academic course load, but also with financial worries. Through the extraordinary generosity of Norfolk Southern and the dedication of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, I can now worry less about finances, and focus more on my studies. Moreover, being able to call myself a VFIC/Norfolk Southern Scholar is such a tremendous honor that I will consistently devote my greatest effort into being the best student that I can. It is beyond flattering to be the recipient of such a prestigious recognition. In addition to the financial assistance, the Norfolk Southern Scholarship will provide even more motivation for me in my future academic pursuits. I am eternally thankful for this award and pledge to continue my efforts in making the best of this wonderful opportunity. I express my sincerest thanks for this scholarship; it is worth more than can be explained.”
