VFIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Bridgewater College students

The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges' named scholarship program allows a corporation, foundation or individual to have one or more students at each of the VFIC's 15 member institutions selected as recipients of their scholarship. In addition to making an independent higher education possible for students who otherwise would not be able to attend, the program allows organizations to develop meaningful long-term relationships with students and "see" the positive effects of their philanthropic dollars. To establish a new named scholarship or to ask a question about current scholarships, email Mary-Beth Johnson, VFIC Vice President. For FY 2012, the VFIC awarded 600 students. These scholarships will provide students with opportunities to further their education at our member colleges and universities. Our hope is that, in the future, even greater numbers of students will benefit through partnerships with these and other supporters of Virginia's independent higher education. Scholarship programs are administered by the financial aid offices at the VFIC colleges and universities. See Financial Aid Offices for more information.

		ALTRIA LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS Students receiving the VFIC/Altria Leadership Scholarships are nominated by their College/University President.

		ANONYMOUS FOUNDATION SCHOLARS Low-income students from the greater Washington, DC area including surrounding Maryland & Northern Virginia.

		AEP/APPALACHIAN POWER SCHOLARS Scholarships for students from the service areas of Applaachian Power.

		BB&T SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with financial need and academic promise.

		COLUMBIA GAS OF VIRGINIA SCHOLARS Scholarships for under-represented students with demonstrated financial need and academic promise from the Columbia Gas of Virginia / NISource service areas.

		DIXON HUGHES GOODMAN SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with financial need and academic promise, majoring in accounting or business and have completed Intermediate Accounting I & II.

		DOLLAR TREE SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with financial need and academic promise.

		DOMINION RESOURCES SCHOLARS Scholarships for students majoring in the sciences or pre-engineering.

		FERGUSON SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with financial need and promise.

		GENERAL DYNAMICS IT SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need, academic promise and majoring in Computer Science or Business interested in pursuing an IT career.

		HRH CHARITABLE FUND SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with a declared major in Marketing, Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or related fields.

		LANDMARK MEDIA ENTERPRISES SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need and academic promise.

		LUCK COMPANIES SCHOLARS Scholarships for students from Virginia with demonstrated financial need and academic promise.

		MARKEL SCHOLARS Scholarships for graduates of Partnership for the Future.

		MARS FOUNDATION SCHOLARS Scholarships for students from the Washington, DC metropolitan area with demonstrated financial need and academic promise.

		MEDIA GENERAL SCHOLARS Scholarships for students from Virginia with financial need and academic promise.

		NORFOLK SOUTHERN SCHOLARS Scholarships for students who have a declared major in Economics, Business, Finance, or Accounting and are interested in exploring internship opportunities with Norfolk Southern Corporation. (Annually, three scholars are selected through a competitive process.)

		OMNIPLEX WORLD SERVICES CORPORATION SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need, academic promise who have graduated with the past two years from one of Virginia's community colleges or transferring directly from a community college.

		SUNTRUST SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need and academic promise.

		UNIVERSAL CORPORATION SCHOLARS Scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need and academic promise.

		UPS SCHOLARS Scholarships for studenst from underserved and disadvantaged populations and communities who demonstrate financial need and academic promise.
