VFIC Presidential Scholars

The VFIC Presidential Scholars Program is a statewide initiative that develops the next generation of values-based leaders across Virginia’s independent colleges and universities.

In its inaugural year, the VFIC Presidential Scholars Program recognizes one outstanding rising second-year student from each of the 17 VFIC member institutions. Selected by their college/university president, these scholars exemplify leadership, service, and a commitment to strengthening their communities.

Presidential Scholars receive:
• A $10,000 annual scholarship for three years
• Direct mentorship from their college president
• Leadership development seminars and statewide networking opportunities
• A fully funded experiential learning opportunity, such as study abroad, an internship, or a research project

Through this cohort-based experience, scholars build leadership skills, engage with peers from across Virginia, and prepare to lead with integrity in their professions and communities.

“The VFIC Presidential Scholars Program reflects our belief that leadership grounded in ethics, service, and responsibility is essential to the future of the Commonwealth.” — Locke Ogens, VFIC President.

The VFIC plans to grow the Presidential Scholars Program annually, adding new cohorts each year until three cohorts are active simultaneously. Over time, the program will create a strong statewide network of alumni—graduates prepared to lead with integrity and contribute meaningfully to their communities and professions.

The inaugural cohort consists of scholars studying a diverse array of majors and hailing from 4 regions of the Commonwealth, reflecting the breadth of talent and perspectives found across Virginia’s independent colleges and universities.
